Save Money by Installing a Water Purification System in Your West Los Angeles Home.

How Clean Is Your Water?

Tap water can have a rusty, hard, and otherwise unpleasant aftertaste. If you have this issue installing a home water purification system can make a huge difference. While minerals in water can be a good thing, in extreme quantities you will notice it in the taste of your water. With a purification system in place in the home, water tastes like it should.

Natural ground water and tap water are not as clean as claimed by water manufacturers. They are usually contaminated with certain natural impurities, such as nitrate, radon, bacteria, arsenic, and other trace metals which can harm your health.

Alternatives to purification are costly and detrimental to the environment. Bottled water poses hazards you might not have known about. Bottled water may leak chemicals from the bottle into the water, and then into your body when you drink it. The chemicals in the plastic bottle also end up polluting the environment during manufacturing and after the bottle is discarded.

If you are interested in installing a water purification system in your home, give us a call today. Our professionals will ensure quality service and provide you with the clean and healthy water you and your family deserve. Contact Los Angeles area JO-MI Plumbing today at 310-473-8111 for more information on water purification systems.

Want Not Waste Not.

When the weather gets cooler, it's a good idea to bring in hoses from the outside and store them in the garage. Also, make sure the faucet that it was attached to is sealed off for the season. A leaky faucet can be costly (as well as illegal amidst the drought).

Check around your home for any standing/running water. Water is a hot commodity these days and waste is intolerable. Do your part, for yourself and the state. Secure the valves, put away the hoses, and select plants that require little to no water.

How Can I Save Money On My Water Bill?

The more a toilet flushes, the higher your plumbing bill will be. Utilities are one of the major costs associated with apartment renting. While repairs to the unit and other amenities are frequently the financial responsibility of the building owner, the tenant usually needs to cover his or her own expenses regarding gas, electricity, and water. Plumbing costs can easily escalate if you are not careful with your water usage. Reducing plumbing costs in an apartment requires diligence.

Shower Instead of Bathe

It takes significantly more water to fill up a bathtub than it does to take a shower. You can test the theory by closing the drain to the bathtub while showering and see how much water has built up in the tub when you're done. As a result, baths waste a lot more water and are therefore a lot more expensive than showers are. Limit your bath-taking and only take one five-minute shower a day to reduce water usage and cost.

Flush Less
Two to eight gallons of water are lost on average every time a toilet is flushed, so save water by only flushing the toilet when necessary. While waste should not usually be left sitting in the toilet, urine can be flushed the next time the toilet is used. Saving flushes even once or twice a day can result in savings on your plumbing costs while also helping the environment. According to The Simple Dollar, you can save approximately 2,565 gallons of water annually this way.

Check for Leaks

A dripping faucet can waste hundreds of gallons of water over the course of a month. Annually, these gallons add up to a lot of financial waste. Make sure you shut off each faucet completely when you are done using it. Also be sure to inspect your pipes regularly for water leaks.

Contact Los Angeles area JO-MI Plumbing at 310-473-8111 for more information or help on saving money and the environment.

Combat The Drought

What can you do to help in the effort against Souther California's drought?

Quite a bit. First, vigilance is key. Only water your lawn for no more than ten minutes at a time no more than 3 times a week. And, make sure to turn the hose off tightly when you are done.

Make sure to spread the word as well. It is imperative that all Souther Californians do their part.

Look around your home and make sure that there isn't and leaks, running water, standing water, or cracks in your pipes.

Call us for more tips on how you can conserve water in this record drought.

Hydro Jetting Is the Most Effective Way to Clean

There are many ways to clean your sewer line and pipes. But there is only one sure proof way. That is Hydro Jetting. What exactly is Hydro Jetting?

This is the most effective method of completely cleaning the inside of a pipeline. Water is pumped through a nozzle at up to 4000 psi to scour the inside of a pipe, removing roots, scale, grease, dirt, and other obstructions.

If you've checked all faucets and tub or shower spouts for leaks and have found none, the next step is to see if your toilet is leaking. This is done by checking the water level to ensure no water is leaking from the tank through the overflow pipe. The fill valve should only fill the tank to within 1" of the top of the overflow pipe or to the "fill lever" stamped on the inside of the tank. You may have to adjust the fill valve if the water level is too high. Next, place a few drops of food coloring in the tank. If the water bowl changes color within 15 minutes of the toilet not being used, the toilet is leaking.

Your Disposal Is Not A Catch-All

Your garbage disposal is not a "catch-all". Be mindful of what you put down your kitchen sink and into your disposal after your cookout. Most disposals are not equipped to handle coarse items such as corn husks, celery, banana peels, and other fibrous or "stringy" foods. The fibrous foods are nearly impossible to break up and can tangle in your disposal. Some other items to stay away from are fats and cooking oils because they form clots in the pipes. It can be detrimental when it solidifies. To help prevent future clogs, run cold water at full pressure for 15 seconds before and after you put anything down the disposal. This will flush it through without causing any fats or oils that did make it down your drain to melt and then solidify on the walls of your pipes. Never put instant stuffing, potato mixes or similar "just-add-water" foods down the drain-they'll create an instant clog when you add water. Just adding water causes expansion.

Save money and energy when you go on vacation. Turn down the temperature of your water heater.

Sewer line backups are common this time of year due to summer rainwater entering sewer pipes via cracks. New tree root growth from the spring can also cause sewer backup issues as roots are drawn toward the sewer line as a source of water and nutrients. Have one of our qualified plumbers inspect your sewer line to let you know if you are susceptible to sewer line backup problems or if damage has already occurred. In either situation, your plumber will be able to help you determine the best treatment option for proper drain cleaning.

Go Hydronic

Hydronic heating systems use water as a medium to move heat from where it's produced to where it's needed. Custom configurations paired with modern technology will allow for the exact comfort settings to be experienced by the user, quietly and efficiently.

The following are a few of the benefits to having hydronic heating installed in your home:

Hydronic heating provides virtually unlimited possibilities to meet the comfort needs, budget, aesthetic tastes, and usage of any home. Just a single hydronic heating system can supply space heating, hot water, and pool heating. This reduces the cost and eliminates the redundancy of having multiple heat sources, electrical hookups, exhaust systems, and fuel supply components.

A common issue with forced-air heating systems is the dust, pollen, and smoke that moves throughout a building or home. Places where the air-filtering is poorly maintained, dust streaks around wall and ceiling diffusers are apparent. Very few hydronic systems utilize forced-air circulation. The hydronic systems that do, create room air circulation vs. building air circulation. This minimizes the distribution of airborne particles. This is a major benefit in homes and buildings were air cleanliness is crucial, such as for people with allergies, or poor health.

Call us today to ring out how JO-MI plumbing can provide you and your family with the latest technology in energy efficiency!

Green Is The Way

Today we are becoming more "green" than ever. Conserving energy is no longer a practice limited to the Amish. Conservation is the key to sustainability. This is something the Amish, Native Americans, Homesteaders and outdoor-lovers alike are all aware of. Conservation. Taking only what you need and storing the rest. How does this apply to plumbing, you ask?
Well, solar power isn't just a novelty of the late seventies flower children. It's a real way to save and conserve money and energy while leaving little to no carbon footprint.

Heating your home's water with solar power is something that has been possible to do for a few decades now. When concern of climate change due to the result of industrial pollution gave a more serious tenor to solar power. As a result, inn 2012, 83,000 American homeowners installed solar energy systems, up 55 percent from the previous year. There are three factors driving this explosion: a glut of cheap panels manufactured mainly in China, a 30 percent federal tax break on installation through 2016, and the rise of third-party leasing companies like Sunrun that practically eliminate start-up costs for homeowners like Lieser, who can't afford installation on their own.

Have we convinced you yet? Give us a call today. Solar power is the way to go. Go green or go to the poor house.

Your Home’s Plumbing Should Be Made With The Most Efficient Copper Piping Available

Is your home more than 20 years old? In Southern California, the answer is generally “yes” as the grid was built long ago. Barring some razed properties that built anew atop of the old. Most Southern California homes are asked to endure only moderate weather conditions but the chance the earth will shake uncontrollably at any given time is a real possibility here.
Your home’s structural integrity can be compromised in even the smallest of tremors. It only behooves you to make sure your home’s plumbing is made with the most efficient copper piping available.

What are the advantages of copper piping?

Any current dwelling being built is going to employ the use of copper piping. The reason being is it is resistant to nearly all harsh conditions. Older pipes are made of galvanized metal, which over time corrode and leak and are no longer capable of servicing your home.

Copper pipes have a life span of 80-100 years. That’s a lifetime of worry free water flow.
Call us today for information on copper refitting. We meet both residential and commercial needs. Don’t spring another leak, go copper!

What's New In The World Of Plumbing?

Plumbing is an industry that has remained virtually the same for a hundred years... That is until a few years ago.

The "green movement" has had an impact on an industry that remained stagnant for a century. Now, there are alternative methods to heating your home such as solar power heating and waterless tanks have revolutionized the industry.

In 2007 the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) released final specifications for toilets certified under its new WaterSense water efficiency program. New WaterSense labeled toilets are 20 percent more efficient and use less than 1.28 gallons per flush. These toilets are not only more efficient than past models, but they are more effective fixtures in general.

Although the WaterSense standard was voluntary, it is now the law in several states, including California and Texas. For that reason, high-efficiency toilets are leading the way in plumbing technology trends and the next frontier for water efficiency is showers.

Plumbing manufacturers are now coming out with new water-efficient shower-heads that allow you to reduce the flow and still have a high-performance shower that allows you to rinse properly.

Copper Repiping Replaces Old Corroded Galvanized Pipes

What is Copper Repiping ?

If your home or building was built prior to 1970 then you probably have out-of-date, corroded, and rusty galvanized water pipes (which are more than likely to break and cause costly water damage in and under your home). Old galvanized water pipes are almost guaranteed to cause a host of problems for home and property owners.

Do you experience low water pressure?
Low water pressure can be caused by rust or corrosion blocking flow in your galvanized pipes.

Do you get rust colored or yellow water?
Discolored water is usually a sign of advanced rust and corrosion. Any sign of discoloration means you should replace your water pipes as soon as possible.

Have you had leaks in your plumbing?
Plumbing leaks are often caused by the corrosion of old galvanized pipes.

Do you ever get scalded in the shower when someone flushes, uses a sink, or turns on the washing machine? Let Jomi Plumbing retrofit your tub or shower with Pressure Balanced Valves.

Do you have galvanized or polybutylene (plastic) pipes?
Galvanized pipes are the grayish silver looking pipes. If your home was built prior to 1970, you probably have rust-filled and corroded galvanized water pipes.

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then consider copper repiping, by Jomi Plumbing.

Benefits of repiping your home include:
Replacing your old and damaged galvanized water pipes with new clean copper piping is a good idea. Copper pipe does not corrode, does not rust, and once installed will last a lifetime.

After copper repiping you will enjoy:

Reduced Plumbing Costs
Clean/Clear Water Without Rust
Better Volume and Water Flow
Better Tasting Drinking Water
A Great Selling Feature (if you plan to sell your home or building)

Copper repiping may also let you take a comfortable shower, wash dishes, water the lawn, wash laundry, and use faucets and fixtures at the same time. Copper Repiping gives you great water pressure, improves delivery of hot water, reduces or eliminates plumbing repairs, and saves money on water loss.

Contact Los Angeles area JO-MI Plumbing today at 310-473-8111 for more information copper repiping.

What Are The Steps To Take To Remove A Clogged Drain?

There are few other annoying home repairs that demand your immediate attention like clogged drains. Regardless of what you're doing, you must stop and attend to the current mini crisis that is a clogged drain.

Preventing drain clogs involves very little work. Instead of spending excessive time and effort whenever the pipes get backed up, you just exert a fraction of that effort on a monthly (or, in more extreme situations, bi-monthly) basis. For many people, that effort is nothing more than pouring a gallon of hot/boiling water down your drain. This helps loosen any hair or gunk clogging the main pathway and push down. After you do this, be sure to run regular warm water for about five minutes just to continue pushing everything as far down and out as you can get it.

If you find that doesn't work a hair catcher will come in handy. For about $5-10 you get a little device that sits in your drain and catches hair and gunk. Gross, yes, but you just empty it after use of your sink or shower. This mesh screen will save you money and prevent costly drain clogs.

If the problem continues to persist, that's when our experts come in and identify the cause and quickly eliminate the problem. Leaving you plumbing crisis free.

Contact Los Angeles area JO-MI Plumbing today at 310-473-8111 for assistance with any of your plumbing needs.
